bobhughes > These little kiosks are common in the rural areas. The petrol is hand-pumped into the see-though container above the barrel, then drained into your tank.

This man warned me that it would rain in about 3 hours and it might get cold. Cold? I scoffed, I'm from Manchester! Within an hour and a half I was riding through the most incredible downpour and shivering. I bought a plastic bag and cut a neck- and arm-holes to make myself a cosy little tunic. I grew attached to the tunic and couldn't bring myself to buy a proper waterproof.

bobhughes > This was taken in a village about a km or so from the border with Myanmar. Many of the villagers fought with the KMT against the Burmese army. It's become a bit of a theme park but is interesting nonetheless.
